STF RTBMT-HC Bi-Flow Thermostatic Expansion Valves for R22
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
STF RTBMT-HC thermostatic expansion valves are designed for refrigerant metering and superheat control in reversible R22 heat-pump and air-conditioning systems.
The bi-flow construction allows refrigerant flow in both directions, reducing the need for separate expansion valves and external check-valve bypass arrangements in compatible reversible circuits.
The valve modulates refrigerant flow according to evaporator load and maintains controlled outlet superheat. Model selection must be based on refrigerant, evaporating temperature, condensing temperature, pressure drop, required capacity and connection configuration.
KEY FEATURES
• Bi-flow thermostatic expansion-valve construction
• Designed for compatible reversible heat-pump circuits
• Superheat control in both operating directions
• Factory static-superheat setting of approximately 3.5 K
• Static-superheat adjustment range from 2 to 8 K
• Evaporating-temperature range from −40°C to +10°C
• ODF solder connections
• External pressure equalization on applicable RTBMT configurations
• MOP configurations available by order
• Brass valve body with copper connections

CAPACITY NOTICE
The values above identify nominal capacity classes. Actual valve capacity changes with refrigerant condition, evaporating temperature, condensing temperature, subcooling and pressure drop.
Do not select the valve using refrigeration tonnage alone.
The exact refrigerant charge, MOP setting, inlet size, outlet size and external equalizer connection must be verified from the product nameplate or manufacturer’s order code before shipment.
APPLICATIONS
• Reversible heat-pump systems
• Commercial air-conditioning equipment
• Reversible refrigeration circuits
• Packaged air-conditioning units
• Compatible liquid chillers
• Heating and cooling systems requiring bi-directional refrigerant flow
INSTALLATION NOTES
• Match the valve to the refrigerant and calculated system capacity.
• Confirm the direction and piping arrangement before brazing.
• Protect the valve body and power element from excessive brazing heat.
• Mount the sensing bulb according to standard refrigeration practices.
• Connect the external equalizer to the correct suction-line location.
• Adjust superheat only after the system has reached stable operating conditions.
• Installation must be performed by a qualified refrigeration technician.
