Product Description

The HONGSEN ERF22 and ERF22W Series thermostatic expansion valves are designed to regulate the flow of R22 refrigerant into direct-expansion evaporators according to the evaporator outlet superheat.

Two connection and pressure-equalization configurations are available:

• ERF22: internally equalized valve with metric flare connections
• ERF22W: externally equalized valve with inch SAE flare connections and a 1/4 SAE external equalizer port

Multiple orifice sizes are available to cover nominal refrigeration capacities from 3.5 to 52.7 kW under the manufacturer’s stated rating conditions. Selecting the correct model requires confirmation of the refrigerant, cooling capacity, evaporating temperature, condensing temperature, pressure drop and required connection sizes.

Model Selection Guidance

Select the required valve according to:

• Refrigerant type
• Required nominal cooling capacity
• Evaporating and condensing temperatures
• Liquid-line pressure drop
• Internal or external equalization requirement
• Inlet and outlet connection sizes
• Evaporator pressure drop
• Required orifice size

External equalization is recommended where the evaporator or distributor creates a significant pressure drop. Final selection should be completed by a qualified refrigeration technician.

Installation Notes

• Confirm the refrigerant and valve capacity before installation.
• Check the flow-direction arrow on the valve body.
• Install the sensing bulb securely on a clean horizontal suction line.
• Position the bulb according to accepted refrigeration practice.
• Connect the external equalizer downstream of the sensing-bulb position.
• Prevent excessive installation heat from reaching the power element.
• Leak-test the system after installation.
• Installation and adjustment must be performed by a qualified refrigeration technician.
